When I go on a 'photohunt', one of the first things I look for are images that have natural frames, either arches, gates, walls. or doorways. I think they help focus the eye on the beauty of the shot. This first shot is of a fabulous stairway with an arch. It's hard to see in this photo but there are actually several stairways here, as well as some lovely columns. We spotted this in a shopping gallery in the middle of the city. Nearby on the wall was a sign explaining that in this are were found many artifacts from the Roman times. In some places you can see actual archeological sites, now exposed for us to view!
If you remember to look left and right while you are walking through a city,
you might be lucky and find this kind of scene... peaceful and pretty.
And again... more fabulous arched ceilings...
the light was just spectacular here, even at midday!

I'm enjoying your photos so much, Kim! Just lovely.
My dad is Austrian - born in Innsbruck but grew up in Bregenz am Bodensee (Lake Constance). It still haven't made it to Vienna but will someday!
I really do love those arched doorways and ceilings...especially the ones here that once served as underground wine cellars. It's just a noticeable break from the usual straight surfaces, perfect angles, and corners that we're so accustomed with in the states!
These are some great pics! Looks like a beautiful city. Hope to get there one day myself.

Kim - I just love that second shot. It reminds me of one of the only shots I took in Switzerland that was a bit like that, well at least on a side street. It's just pure heaven... beautiful!!! And now I know more about Christina too. :)
Cristina... you really should try to get to Vienna- it's a spectacular city!
Rowena... there's something very special about eating and drinking in one of those caverns with vaulted ceilings!
Cynthia... get thee to Austria!
ET... (call home-LOL) No really... thanks for your kind comments. One day I have to see your Switzerland!
Loved your photos ... the butterflies too, and enjoyed the piece on Ethan Hawkes. :)
I love what you said about "when your eyes are open." I want my daily mantra to be OPEN YOUR EYES! (We really are soulmates, Kim! :)
