Tagged: Open Book

Because the tres chic Gorgeoux did the same at my request a long time ago, I'm returning the favour...

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open it at page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence/ phrase.
4. Blog the next four sentences/ phrases together with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig your shelves for that very special or intellectual book.
6. Pass it forward to six friends

Luckily for me I'm reading a gem of a book and it's right here on my desk under my dinner plate. It's called "Delizia: The Epic History of the Italians and Their Food by John Dickie". It's fascinating stuff! Who knew pizza was once thought of as a disease carrying bread!

So page 123 states:

However, like many pontiffs who followed him during the Counter Reformation, Paul was personally abstemious, and a rigid observer of periods of fasting and abstinence.

Pius IV, the next occupant of the throne, made Scappi into his secret cook in 1564. Pius IV was known to enjoy his food, but preferred simple fare, and ate more polenta than was good for him. (He was from Lombardy, after all.) Scappi notes in passing that he liked fried frogs dressed with garlic, and parsley (another good Po valley dish), and consumed with a great deal of barley water- one of the Work's recipes for convalescents.
So there we go. Let's send this one on its merry way once again...

Done, but I don't know about 'quick and easy'. Looking forward to reading snippets out of other people's books.
