On Friday afternoon I went to the Tirana Bienale 3 and I was really surprised to find such a fabulous exhibition here in Albania! What a location- the underground parking garage of a not yet finished highrise building! Very post modern in feel and perfectly appropriate for the theme of Temptations and Taboos.
Several of the exhibits are videos- I especially loved the one about the Cuban Ballet Troup of fat dancers! The exhibits explored subjects such as gluttony (see the photo of the fat woman on the cross), power, and sexuality. It's not very apparent in this photo but the woman is being held on the cross with knives and forks through her palms and arms. It's quite a powerful image and definitely deals with more than one modern taboo.
