The Time of Our Singing

I'm not a very good book reviewer- I can never seem to find the right words to describe a book I've just read. I usually just want to say "I loved it" or "I didn't get it" etc. But this morning I finished reading The Time of Our Singing by Richard Powers and am so in awe of this huge talent. What a book. Heavy, difficult, and covering a HUGE important period of recent history, this book is a rollercoaster ride of emotion. The story revolves around Jonah and Joseph, two mixed race brothers growing up in the midst of the civil rights movement in America. The book weaves story lines about time, physics, music, art,and race. It's a big, complicated piece of classical music- and I couldn't put it down.

Thanks to the guy working at Indigo in Toronto for the recommendation!
