We came home after dark last night. Not too late, maybe 8:30 or so, but late enough that the sun had set and the street lights were on. 200 metres or so before you get to our house, you find the local garbage spot. There's no recycling as we know it and so everything gets thrown into the all-in-one trash cans. I think it gets picked up every night. Once in a while it overflows but it doesn't seem to really get out of control. Sometimes it gets a bit messy because the city Roma are the only recyclers and they are often seen poking through the trash with long sticks grabbing various bags and pulling them up and out onto the road where they're torn open to see if there are any treasures inside.
Imagine my surprise last night when I spotted a Roma man peering into the trash bin using the light from his MOBILE PHONE to see what was in there, and not only that but I also spotted a nice pair of earphones tucked into his ears!! It made me wonder what kind of music he listens to while sorting the garbage? Could it be classical? Country? Heavy metal? Hummm.

Why, of course The Garbage, what else!
You do know, do you not, that there is a band called thusly!

I thought your story was leading up to seeing a rat! (Big fear of mine although I've only ever seen one.)
Industrious man - the treasures he finds probably enabled him to purchase the phone, etc.
Tabakhone, you beat me to Garbage!
Another Scottish band that might be appropriate would be the Trashcan Sinatras.
Hmm, good question.
You didn't stop to ask?
Actually he probably has one of those pre-paid plans on the cell phone, and certain cell phones will recharge off car batteries, for more on this check out on Google Videos, 'My Pretty Diana' You can't live in this region without a mobile phone anymore! :)
