Historical Split, Croatia
Split, Croatia (Kim H)
Split is even more incredible than Dubrovnik (to me). Dubrovnik has been recreated due to the recent Balkan wars and is sometimes more like a movie set than an old city. Split still has that crumbling, ancient feeling- because it actually is! Built just three centuries after the birth of Christ, it is the site of Diocletian's Palace. Diocletian' s claim to fame is his unrelenting persecution of the early Christians. We loved just walking through the city and stumbling upon ancient relics at our feet.
