Change of Plans

We have had to modify our plans for the summer this week due to the worsening condition of P's mother back in Canada. His mother, the sweetest you can imagine, has been afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease for many years now, and has recently taken a serious turn for the worse. We've been in touch with our family on a daily basis for over a month now and we made the decision this week to move our vacation up 3 weeks. So instead of leaving here in August, we've got flights for today.
It is incredibly difficult being so far away from your family when something like this occurs. You just can't snap your fingers and be where you want to be. The best we could do for the flight is Tirana-Vienna-Toronto-Halifax which adds about 8 hours to the journey. So we're up and packing our bags this morning, preparing for a 24 hour trip. Luckily our connections are fairly short spaced, so we are hoping to make them without problems and we'll keep our fingers crossed that our bags arrive with us.
I'll try to blog from Canada, but bear with me if the posts are few and far between. I'll do my best.

My dad's sister suffered much the same... it's one of those afflictions that can almost have a worse affect on family and friends than those afflicted. That said, I wish it on no one.

I know exactly what you're going through and it's hell.

God bless.

I'm so sorry Kim! It's so hard to be away from your loved ones when they need you. Glad you could get a flight and I'll be thinking of you.

You know I understand, Kim. And yes, it will be a blessing if she (and you) can now be "released" from this terrible disease. It can be a very sweet time as you remember what she was "before." I know you and P will be there for each other...and the rest of the family. I love you and all that you are.

Oh dear. I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope your trip goes, well, as well as can be and although I'm not very familiar with this illness, also hope you find "relief" from this whole situation. I'm sorry. I must sound horrible, but I'm very bad at this. My thoughts will be with you.
