Small Pleasures

Small things can make all the difference to my contentment as an expat. Today I opened a package from Amazon.co.uk and in it were two books I had ordered 7 days ago. I worried they'd disappear, or there would be problems at customs, or some other problem.I never felt secure that I'd actually get them, but I did, and I'm sooooo very happy. I bought two books by Jonathon Safran Foer: Everything Is Illuminated, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I'm dropping my present book (I just started it last night anyway) and I'm going to dive right into these.
Another thing that adds pleasure to my life is being able to go to galleries and feel part of the excitement of the visual art. Already I'm involved with the Friends of the National Gallery and I'm working on designing a flyer in English to be used to make it a friendlier place for visitors. I have lots of experience in this area and being useful makes me feel good. So today I went with my friend to parts 2 and 3 of the Tirana Bienale and although they were quite good, I still think the first part was the best. There are 2 more parts still to open and we're looking forward to seeing them too.

Silly me I made the mistake of ordering books from the plain ole amazon, not the UK branch. Now I know better, mostly from the advice of other ex-pats. Thanks for stopping my and your comments on my blog.
