Peace Prayer of St. Francis
O Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is discord, harmony.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sorrow, joy.
Oh, Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Have you read Virgin Time: In Search of the Contemplative Life by Patrica Hampl? It's a memoir; in one section of the book she takes a hiking tour in Italy ending in Assisi and she stays on in a "Poor Clair" convent. (In another section she goes to Lourdes and in the third to a cloister in Northern California.) Maybe something for your book blog.

Got a chance to read through a few of your last posts. I can't wait to learn more about you. With that in mind, I do try to eat local. I avoid Chinese everything for health reasons and I try not to buy anything from Saudi Arabia for political reasons. I've even looked up the web addresses on my food when I can find one on the label to see if it tells me where the food is from and what farming practices are used.

Assis is awesome, and the Giotto's are stunning (I've seen them after the earthquake, but assume they are still there (well maybe, re-done....).
